The Moral Hinge

Not everything fits inside a closed system.
If you’re new here, start here.
We are living at the intersection of power, faith, and wealth—and most of us feel the consequences of that intersection long before we understand it.
The Moral Hinge exists to investigate a difficult question:
How did the Church’s theological and economic foundations help create the world we now inhabit?
This is not a finished argument.
It is a working file—a research-driven, blog-to-book project that traces how Christianity moved from a shared way of life to a more internal system of belief, and how that shift reshaped our relationship to inequality, power, and responsibility.
What This Is
This site is both a publication and a record of an ongoing investigation.
Over the next 20 months, this work will develop into a full-length book. What you are reading here are the pieces as they are being formed:
arguments tested
historical threads pulled
connections made and refined
You are not arriving at the end.
You are entering in the middle.
Where to Begin
If you’re starting fresh, begin with a few of these:
These will give you a sense of the terrain.
How This Is Organized
The investigation moves through three primary lenses:
The Imperial Hinge
How early empires—particularly in the 8th and 9th centuries—shaped the political and religious frameworks that still define the modern world.
The Ledger and the Lectern
The Church’s economic imagination: from early communal life to the structural realities of modern inequality.
The Secular Imaginary
How the modern world reshaped belief itself—moving from a shared, “porous” understanding of reality to a more closed, individual framework.
Each post sits somewhere within this structure.
How to Read This
This is not a blog to skim.
It is a body of work that builds over time.
You don’t need to read everything, and you don’t need to read in order. But it helps to read slowly, and to let connections form between pieces.
Think of this less like a feed—and more like a map that is still being drawn.
Where This Connects
If you’re interested in how these ideas show up in everyday lived faith:
If you’re interested in how these tensions emerge through a thriller fiction narrative and investigation:
This is a long-form project.
It will take time to unfold.
But the hinge is moving—and you’re seeing it as it turns.

Thank you for this organized view of what The Moral Hinge is about and what it will present about "living at the intersection of power, faith, and wealth."
